How2 - Moroccan Wall Art

Our entryway is bland, bland, bland. So, I decided to gussy it up a tad. I really dig the Moroccan style, the pendant lamps, rich colors, etc. I know the hottest thing right now is the chevron, which I do like but, it's everywhere & I was looking for something a little less trendy. I came across Sarah's blog, whiletheysnooze.blogspot.com who had an entire wall stenciled with the template I had decided on. She provided not only the tutorial but the template as well! Thanks Sarah :)
The wall I did is right over 7' x a little under 8'. I enlarged the template to be 10" x 11", printed it out (printed onto 2 separate pages), taped the pages together, cut the template out then did so again onto cardboard & got to tracing. Sarah taped a level onto her stencil but I didn't have one. I eyeballed it and it came out beautifully.

First, our entryway walls were a boring flat sandy color so, I painted them 'candlelit beige' which is off-white, more white than beige (I've used this same color in our kids/guest bathroom as well).

Second, I traced the Moroccan stencil onto the wall with pencil.

Third, I went over the pencil with my paint selection, a lovely gray (the tag rubbed off so I don't have the color name, sorry) and a very small paint brush.

Coming along nicely, wouldn't you say?

And, done. Lighting's not the greatest, but you get the idea.

Don't worry, an extremely steady hand is not necessary for this project. It's not going to be perfect but, it's not supposed to be, that's what adds to the charm. Besides, nobody's noticed my goofs :)

This project ended up taking me 2 weeks because I'm really bad about starting other things. The pencil stenciling took me a couple hours, the painting will take you as long as you allow it. Very simple, cost effective (I already had all the supplies), & WOW! what a difference. I want to, again, thank Sarah for her awesome tutorial & free Moroccan template. Check out her other DIY's.
