How2 - Homemade Deodorant

I found this fantastic link on Buzzfeed.com; 31 Household Products You'll Never Have to Buy Again. Ok, you got me, what are they? Well, click the link and check it out. One of my favorites is the homemade deodorant. This stuff works. Let me tell you, better than any commercial brand out there, eco-friendly, organic, or not.
I won't lie, I sweat. Shhhhhh. I know I must be the only one, right? But, seriously, the body's designed to sweat. It's how it rids itself of all the crap (i.e. toxins) we dump as well as slather on it on a daily basis.
Most people are thinking, "Uh, homemade deodorant that allows you to sweat? Isn't that what deodorant is supposed to stop?" No, that's anti-perspirants, and that's the really bad stuff.  The body naturally has this "ventilation" for a reason. What goes in must come out somehow. What this deodorant does is make you not smell. And that's what we all really we care about, right?

Here's what you gotta do:
  • Take about 5-6 Tbls of organic coconut oil
  • Mix in 1/4c arrowroot powder
  • Mix in 1/4c baking soda
  • I also add 1/8c cornstarch (you may leave this out, some people feel it irritates their skin)
  • You can also add any essential oil flavor you perfer

  • Mix it all together
  • Store in an airtight glass jar
  • Using your fingertips, scoop out a small amount & rub into your armpits.

During the warmer months coconut oil liquefies so will your deodorant, you can probably tell from the above pic. During the cooler months, it will harden. I'll admit it's not the easiest to transport as your regular store-bought deodorant/anti-perspirant, but it works & does not contain all the bad stuff like aluminum, parabens, fake fragrances, etc.
